Sweden's Preparedness Week: A Nationwide Effort

Published: 2024-09-23

As Sweden's annual preparedness week kicks off, municipalities across the country are showcasing their crisis management strategies.

In Avesta, the local government is testing its "safety point" in Avestaparken, designed to serve as a hub for residents in case of power or communication disruptions.

This initiative is part of a broader effort by Swedish municipalities to enhance their crisis readiness, with varying levels of ambition reported.

While some areas like Falun and Vansbro have opted out, Avesta and Malung-Sälen are fully engaged, aiming for the highest activity levels.

Meanwhile, in Jönköping, the newly built Vilhelmsrogården elder care facility is testing its crisis functions, including backup power and mobile water tanks, to ensure resilience in emergencies.

The theme for this year's preparedness week, "Get Started," encourages citizens to actively plan for crises, reflecting a growing public interest in readiness amid global uncertainties.
