Sweden's First ISIS Conviction

Published: 2025-02-15

A 22-year-old man from Sweden has been sentenced to three years and three months in prison for participating in the terrorist organization ISIS.

This marks the first conviction under Sweden's new law, which criminalizes involvement in terrorist organizations.

The law, effective since June 1, 2023, aims to penalize actions that support or strengthen such groups.

The man was also found guilty of financing terrorism and making multiple trips to Somalia to join ISIS.

He was arrested in the summer of 2024 at Arlanda Airport while attempting to leave the country.

The court highlighted the extensive investigation that provided a clear picture of his activities.

The man denies all charges.
