Sweden's Drone Defense Initiative

Published: 2024-09-10

Sweden is accelerating its military drone program to enhance its defense capabilities.

The Swedish Armed Forces plan to equip the army with patrol robots, known as kamikaze drones, to catch up with advancements seen in Ukraine and the USA.

Social Democrats propose a state-led program to develop military drones, initially ordering 30,000 units.

These drones will serve surveillance and combat roles, reflecting their critical use in Ukraine's defense against Russia.

Experts highlight Sweden's current limited drone numbers and emphasize the need for a strategic integration of drones into military operations.

The rapid pace of technological development necessitates a shift in approach to ensure drones are effectively utilized in future defense strategies.
