Sweden has been highlighted as one of the worst performers in Europe when it comes to integrating highly educated migrants into the workforce, ranking fifth in a new study commissioned by Financial Times, Lighthouse Reports, and Unbiased News.
The report, titled "Brain Waste," indicates that nearly half of all college-educated migrants in Europe are overqualified for the jobs they hold, with Sweden facing significant challenges in this area.
Language proficiency emerges as a critical factor for successful integration into the job market, with the study suggesting that migrants with a strong command of Swedish fare much better.
The economic impact of this structural discrimination is profound, with the report estimating that if migrants were employed in roles commensurate with their qualifications and paid equally to native counterparts, the European economy could grow by €33.8 billion.
