Sweden Faces Renewed Snowstorm Threat

Published: 2024-04-04

Sweden braces for another round of severe snowstorms expected to hit on Thursday, following a recent spell of record cold and significant traffic disruptions.

Meteorologist Lasse Rydqvist forecasts over a decimeter of snow, particularly affecting Bohuslän, Dalsland, Västergötland, and Värmland, with potential for heavy wet snow combined with wind causing reduced visibility, slushy roads, and power outages.

Despite the chaos, SVT's meteorologist Marcus Sjöstedt suggests that the upcoming snowfall might not replicate the extensive traffic problems seen earlier, but caution is still advised, especially in southern Sweden due to slippery conditions.

In response to the severe weather, police region Väst remains in a "special event" mode, ready to act in coordination with other authorities.
