Sweden is experiencing record-breaking cold temperatures for April, with northern regions hitting lows near -30 degrees Celsius.
This extreme cold spell, the most severe in 68 years, is attributed to a high-pressure system over northern Sweden and clear skies which facilitate rapid cooling.
In Västerbotten, temperatures plummeted to -32.3 degrees Celsius, breaking the previous April record set in 1955. Despite the frigid nights, daytime temperatures are expected to become more tolerable, rising to between -3 and -8 degrees Celsius.
The cold front is forecasted to recede towards the weekend, making way for milder weather.
