Sweden Boosts Wind Power with New Funding

Published: 2024-09-09

The Swedish government has announced a significant financial incentive to encourage municipalities to approve land-based wind power projects.

In a press conference, Energy Minister Ebba Busch and Climate Minister Romina Pourmokhtari revealed plans to allocate 340 million kronor in 2025 to support municipalities that agree to host wind farms.

This initiative aims to overcome local resistance and increase the share of wind energy in Sweden's power mix.

The funding will match the property tax revenues from wind power, ensuring that communities benefit directly.

Additionally, the government plans to invest in nuclear power and energy storage, with a total of 1.1 billion kronor earmarked for these projects by 2027. This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance Sweden's fossil-free energy production and ensure reliable electricity supply.
