Sweden Boosts Law Enforcement Funding

Published: 2024-09-11

The Swedish government, in collaboration with the Sweden Democrats, has announced a significant increase in funding for the country's law enforcement agencies.

Over the next five years, the budget is set to rise from 69 billion to 100 billion SEK annually.

This initiative includes a 1.4 billion SEK allocation for the police and the establishment of a new financial intelligence center to enhance cooperation between the police, economic crime authorities, tax agency, and banks.

Additionally, the government plans to offer loan forgiveness for police students starting from the autumn term of 2024, aiming to attract more recruits to the force.

This move has been welcomed by the Police Union, which believes it will help address the shortage of officers by making the profession more appealing.

The Security Police will also receive an additional 95 million SEK in 2025 to bolster their operations.
