Sweden Boosts Aid to Ukraine, Calls for Increased Support

Published: 2024-02-24

Sweden has pledged a significant financial contribution to war-torn Ukraine, with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) donating 74 million kronor.

The funds are directed towards the International Red Cross Committee (ICRC) and the humanitarian country fund UHF, aiming to provide cash support, healthcare, food, and ensure access to water, heat, and electricity.

This donation is part of Sweden's ongoing support, with Sida having provided 233.4 million kronor in 2023, and an estimated 154 million kronor planned for the current year.

Meanwhile, Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson, during his visit to Ukraine, highlighted the underestimation of Russia and called for increased resources from Sweden and Europe to support Ukraine, emphasizing it as an investment in their own security.
