Sudden Ice Hazard Hits Northern Sweden

Published: 2024-11-05

The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) has issued a yellow warning for sudden ice in northeastern Norrland.

From Monday evening to Tuesday morning, freezing rain or rain on cold surfaces is expected, potentially causing traffic disruptions.

Drivers are advised to exercise caution and adjust their speed to the road conditions.

A traffic accident involving a car and a truck occurred on the E10 in Överkalix due to the icy conditions, involving eight people, though no serious injuries have been reported.

Some individuals have been taken to a health center for checks.

The police are investigating the incident, emphasizing the severe slipperiness at the site.
