Stockholm's Parking App Controversy

Published: 2024-10-12

Stockholm's decision to discontinue its free parking app, "Betala P," has led to confusion and frustration among residents.

The city now directs users to commercial apps, which often impose additional fees, contrary to initial promises of no extra costs.

Traffic Commissioner Lars Strömgren has faced criticism for the agreements with app companies like Easypark, which can add up to 40 kronor in service fees on municipal parking.

While Strömgren suggests consumers should choose cheaper apps, many find it challenging to avoid these fees.

In contrast, neighboring municipalities like Solna have negotiated deals ensuring no extra charges for parking.

Critics argue that Stockholm's approach has inadvertently increased costs for drivers, prompting calls for the return of "Betala P" until a fair solution is found.
