Region Stockholm has unveiled its 2025 budget, prioritizing healthcare and public transportation amidst a challenging economic landscape.
The budget, presented by the coalition of Social Democrats, Center Party, and Green Party, with support from the Left Party, aims to enhance primary healthcare by allocating 180 million SEK to hire more general practitioners, addressing the need for better patient continuity.
Despite these efforts, opposition voices criticize the budget for not doing enough to lower taxes or improve services.
In public transportation, the budget includes plans for a new subway line to Bromma Parkstad and a fare increase for SL tickets, with a 30-day adult pass rising by 40 SEK.
Additionally, a pilot project will reduce working hours for 1,400 specialist nurses, aiming to improve work-life balance.
While the budget maintains current tax levels for 2025, a minor tax reduction is planned for 2026, sparking debate over its adequacy.
