Sweden is likely to experience longer heatwaves due to climate change, particularly in Stockholm, which already saw record-breaking heat in 2018. A recent analysis by consulting firm Sweco revealed that by 2100, the city could face over 60 days of heatwaves annually.
Martina Söderström from Sweco stressed the need for heat-adaptation strategies, as only a third of Swedish municipalities have plans for extreme heat.
The rising temperatures pose significant risks, including increased deaths and socio-economic challenges.
Immediate action is needed to increase resilience and protect vulnerable populations.
