Social Democrats Propose Doubling Healthcare Funds

Published: 2024-04-29

In a bold move to address the healthcare crisis in Sweden, the Social Democrats have proposed doubling the government's healthcare funding in their shadow budget.

The party plans to allocate an additional six billion kronor to healthcare, making it a total of twelve billion kronor, financed primarily through a new bank tax.

Alongside healthcare, the Social Democrats aim to enhance educational and social welfare by introducing two extra summer payments of study grants for high school students, doubling the government's educational funding, and earmarking 700 million kronor to combat youth crime.

These initiatives are part of a comprehensive package, underpinned by the introduction of a new bank tax expected to generate 8.3 billion kronor, to strengthen Sweden's social and educational infrastructure amidst ongoing crises.
