Snow Alert: Southern Sweden Faces Disruption

Published: 2024-04-17

Southern Sweden braces for a snowy disruption as the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) issues a yellow warning for substantial snowfall expected overnight into Thursday.

The warning encompasses eastern Västergötland, southern Örebro County, western Östergötland County, northeastern Jönköping County, and parts of northwestern Kalmar County, with up to 7 centimeters of snow predicted in areas north of Vättern and across Småland.

Meteorologists warn of potential traffic disruptions due to snow, ice, poor visibility, and snowdrifts, with risks extending to delays and cancellations in public and air transport.

The snowfall, turning heavy at times, is anticipated to transition back to rain as temperatures rise above freezing by Thursday afternoon, likely not remaining on the ground.
