Severe Weather Alert in Swedish Lapland

Published: 2024-09-19

The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) has issued a yellow warning for severe winds and rain showers in the Lapland mountains, effective from Wednesday evening until Friday morning.

This warning is particularly directed at inexperienced visitors, as the combination of cold air and rain poses a significant risk of frostbite.

Meanwhile, northern Sweden is bracing for potential snow showers as colder air moves in over the weekend.

Meteorologists predict that these conditions could lead to the first significant snowfall of the season in the high mountain areas, with several centimeters expected.

Despite the chill in the north, southern Sweden continues to enjoy late summer warmth, with temperatures reaching up to 20 degrees Celsius.

However, the nights remain cold, with frost and minus temperatures reported in some highland areas.
