A group of 48 scientists has issued a stark warning to the Nordic governments about the underestimated risk of the Gulf Stream's collapse.
This ocean current, crucial for maintaining Scandinavia's mild climate, faces potential disruption due to massive meltwater from Greenland.
If the Gulf Stream collapses, northern Europe could experience a drastic temperature drop, with Sweden potentially becoming 20 degrees colder within a century.
The scientists emphasize that such a collapse would have irreversible effects, threatening the modern welfare states in the region.
Despite the low probability of this event occurring soon, experts like Professor Johan Rockström urge immediate action to prevent a climate catastrophe.
