Säpo Strikes Again in Tyresö Tied to IS Somalia Links

Published: 2024-03-09

In a significant operation on Friday night in Tyresö, south of Stockholm, Swedish Security Service (Säpo) and heavily armed police forces targeted a residence.

This action is directly tied to Thursday's operation, which resulted in the arrest of four individuals linked to the terrorist organization IS in Somalia.

According to Säpo spokesperson Fredrik Hultgren-Friberg, the measures were part of an ongoing investigation into violent Islamist extremism, aiming to prevent a planned criminal activity and a potential threat.

The operation also involved a raid on an Islamic association in Tyresö, which has previously received substantial state funding but has now had its membership in Sweden's Muslim Federation frozen.

The suspects are charged with preparation for terrorist activities and severe weapons violations.
