Record-Breaking Storm Ingunn Hits Northern Sweden

Published: 2024-02-02

A powerful storm named Ingunn has swept across northern Sweden, bringing record-breaking winds and causing widespread disruptions.

The storm, originating from Norway, has hit areas like Stekenjokk in northern Jämtland with wind speeds exceeding fifty meters per second.

The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) has issued multiple warnings for strong winds throughout the weekend, with an orange warning for wind and snow in the mountain regions of Härjedalen, Jämtland, and southern Lapland.

The storm has also affected other parts of the country, with yellow wind warnings in place for parts of Jämtland, the northern Lapland mountains, and central Norrland.

Local resident Anders Pärson, father of skiing champion Anja Pärson, reported severe snowstorms from his home in Hemavan, Västerbotten, but mentioned they were prepared for such weather events.

Despite the challenges, Pärson expressed a sense of security, praising the local snow plow teams for their efficiency.

As the storm continues, residents are advised to stay indoors, with further blustery conditions predicted across Sweden.
