Protests Erupt Over Senior Material's Emissions

Published: 2024-07-31

Protests have erupted in Eskilstuna over Senior Material's plan to release 900 tons of methylene chloride annually.

Marielle Lahti, the Green Party leader in Eskilstuna, called the situation "extremely serious.

" In response, the Sweden Democrats are pushing for an investigation into halting the emissions and possibly repurchasing the land sold to the company.

However, Social Democrat Marie Svensson criticized these proposals as unrealistic, stating that all parties were aware of the planned emissions before the factory's establishment.

Despite assurances from environmental authorities that the emissions pose no health risk, over 7,000 residents have joined a protest movement, expressing their concerns about the potential impact on their community.
