Protests Against Journalist Spark Outcry

Published: 2024-07-26

In Malmö, tensions have escalated following protests against a journalist from Sydsvenskan who reported on controversial slogans at Palestine demonstrations.

Demonstrators gathered outside the reporter's home, accusing her of supporting genocide, which has raised serious concerns about press freedom.

Jonas Kanje, the editor-in-chief of Sydsvenskan, condemned the protests, stating that the newspaper will not be intimidated or silenced.

He emphasized the importance of independent journalism and vowed to continue reporting without fear.

Meanwhile, Nabil Abdulmajid, an organizer of the demonstrations, distanced the movement from the violent rhetoric used during protests, asserting that such behavior is unacceptable.

Utrikesminister Tobias Billström also voiced support for media freedom, calling all forms of pressure on journalists unacceptable.
