The Swedish Prosecution Authority is escalating its legal battle against eleven climate activists by appealing their case to the Supreme Court.
These activists were initially convicted of sabotage and disobedience to law enforcement for blocking the E4 highway in 2022, causing significant traffic disruption and delaying an ambulance on an emergency call.
However, an appeals court later acquitted them of the sabotage charges.
Prosecutor General Katarina Johansson Welin argues that this case requires clarification on what constitutes a 'serious disruption' meriting a sabotage charge.
The appeal emphasizes the need for a legal precedent to guide future prosecutions of similar actions.
