Police Warn of Holiday Car Theft Surge

Published: 2024-11-24

As the holiday shopping season approaches, Swedish police are issuing warnings to drivers about a surge in car thefts at popular shopping centers.

Thieves are exploiting the busy and often stressful shopping environment by using signal jammers to prevent car locks from engaging, leaving vehicles vulnerable to theft.

This method allows criminals to empty cars of valuables while owners believe their vehicles are securely locked.

Kristian Bergström, a community police officer, emphasizes the importance of double-checking that cars are locked before leaving them unattended.

The police advise shoppers to be vigilant, especially in large parking areas, and to report any suspicious activity immediately.

This warning comes as part of a broader effort to combat the rise in thefts during the bustling holiday season.
