Police Warn of Dangerous Fake Drug

Published: 2024-08-05

The police in Karlstad have issued a warning about a dangerous drug, Metonitazen, being sold in counterfeit packaging labeled as Oxycontin.

Metonitazen is a fentanyl-like substance that is significantly stronger than Oxycontin, a prescription painkiller.

Overdosing on Metonitazen can severely affect breathing and may lead to death.

Local police chief Ulrika Sundström stated that they received anonymous tips about this issue and are taking it seriously to prevent potential harm.

Although there have been no reported cases of individuals seeking medical help after using the counterfeit drug, the police urge the public to be cautious and to talk to their children about the risks of illegal drugs.

They emphasize that what appears to be a familiar medication could actually be something much more dangerous.
