Padel Hall Collapses in Östersund

Published: 2024-02-21

A padel hall in the Torvalla industrial area of Östersund collapsed early in the morning on February 21, 2024. Emergency services were alerted to the incident at 07.21, with police, fire, and medical teams quickly dispatched to the scene.

The structure, which had been partially in operation until recently, is reported to have completely collapsed, leaving only parts of walls standing on one side.

The cause of the collapse remains unclear, though initial speculations suggest heavy snowfall could be a contributing factor.

Authorities are currently using drones equipped with thermal cameras to search the rubble for any potential victims, as it's uncertain whether anyone was inside at the time of the collapse.

The padel hall, which opened in April 2022, had been in the process of closing down due to a dispute with the property owner and subsequent bankruptcy of the operating company, Padel Arena Östersund.

The last bookings for the padel courts were made on December 22, indicating the facility had been minimally used before the incident.

No casualties have been reported so far, and the investigation into the cause of the collapse is ongoing.
