In Norrköping, Sweden, a police-implemented security zone in the Hageby area was evaluated for its effectiveness in curbing gang-related violence.
Established on June 5 following a double murder linked to gang activity, the zone was operational for two weeks.
The evaluation revealed that while residents felt safer due to increased police presence, the zone only marginally hindered criminal activities.
During this period, no major violent crimes were reported, though it remains unclear if this was a direct result of the security measures.
Police conducted 380 body searches, primarily on men, and searched 44 vehicles, finding no firearms or explosives.
A small amount of narcotics and a knife were seized, but these were not linked to gang activities.
Notably, a section of the police report detailing the ethnic backgrounds of those searched was omitted from the final version, focusing instead on gender and age equality.
