The implementation of a security zone in Hageby, Norrköping, aimed at curbing gang-related violence, has shown negligible results, according to a police report.
Despite 380 body searches and 40 vehicle inspections, only two minor seizures were made: two grams of hashish and a knife.
The initiative, part of a broader government strategy to combat crime, allowed police to conduct searches without specific suspicion.
However, the internal evaluation revealed no significant reduction in reported crimes or incidents during the period.
Critics argue that such measures, while appearing tough, lack real effectiveness and may lead to racial profiling.
The police acknowledge the zone's limited impact but suggest it could complement other crime-fighting tools.
