Milj"opartiet's M"arta Stenevi Resigns Amid Internal Challenges

Published: 2024-02-09

In a significant political shift, Milj"opartiet (the Green Party) in Sweden is facing a leadership vacuum following the resignation of co-spokesperson M"arta Stenevi.

Citing a combination of personal and professional reasons, including health and internal party challenges, Stenevi stepped down, leaving the party in search of a new female co-leader.

The departure comes after Stenevi had been sjukskriven (on sick leave) since mid-January, and amidst internal reports addressing concerns regarding the work environment under her leadership.

The Green Party now plans to convene an extra congress to elect a successor, with various potential candidates being discussed, such as Alice Bah Kuhnke, Amanda Lind, and Janine Alm Ericson.

The party's direction and focus on environmental policies versus broader social issues have been a subject of internal debate, accentuating the need for a clear path forward as they prepare for upcoming EU elections and other political engagements.
