A severe fire broke out in the basement of a multi-family residence in Östermalm, Borlänge, on Friday, leading to the evacuation of the entire building.

Over 20 emergency units worked tirelessly into the evening to control the blaze, initially fueled by a large storage of 200-300 bicycles, and prevent it from spreading to the apartments above.

Despite the intense heat and the ineffectiveness of water, the use of foam as a firefighting agent eventually brought the situation under control.

One individual was hospitalized with minor smoke injuries, and the local community rallied to support the evacuees, opening up Hagakyrkan for shelter.

The police have initiated an investigation into suspected arson as the site awaits further technical examination.
