Political leaders in Malmö are pushing for restrictions on the recreational use of nitrous oxide, following a surge in related health incidents.
To combat the rising misuse among young people, both the Sweden Democrats (SD) and Social Democrats (S) are proposing measures.
SD suggests creating nitrous oxide-free zones throughout Malmö, while S wants to expand the ban to all public places citywide.
These measures would enable police to issue fines and involve social services to intervene and provide support.
Similar bans are already set to take effect in nearby areas like Staffanstorp.
