Lise Tamm Leads Gender Equality Agency

Published: 2024-09-27

Lise Tamm, previously a chief prosecutor at the National Unit against Corruption, has been appointed as the new Director-General of the Swedish Gender Equality Agency.

This decision by the government is seen as a fresh start for the agency, which has faced political controversy since its inception.

Tamm, who has also served at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, expressed her excitement about leading the agency and working strategically on gender equality issues.

The agency, located in Angered, Gothenburg, was previously at risk of being shut down but has now received a budget increase of 72 million kronor for the next year.

This move signals the government's commitment to maintaining and strengthening the agency's role in promoting gender equality in Sweden.
