Published: 2024-02-01

Severe storm Ingunn has unleashed chaos across parts of Norway and Sweden, prompting police to close the center of Bod"o due to life-threatening conditions outdoors and issuing warnings to residents to stay inside.

Harstad's hospital escalated to red alert after parts of its roof were torn off, leading to the cancellation of medical appointments and later assistance from police to evacuate patients and relatives.

Tr"ondelag saw evacuations after a residential building lost its roof, and service disruptions affected transport, with regional bus services in southern Troms and Harstad, as well as nearly all flights to and from Troms"o being canceled.

The storm also set a new Swedish wind record in Stekenjokk with a measured average wind speed of 51.8 meters per second, surpassing the previous record of 47.8 meters per second.

Authorities have issued warnings for continued severe weather, advising the public to avoid non-essential travel and to prepare for potential disruptions as another storm system approaches, threatening to bring even stronger gusts to central parts of Norway over the weekend.
