Ingunn Storm Batters Norway, Red Alert Issued

Published: 2024-01-31

A severe storm, dubbed Ingunn, has hit Norway with the potential to be the worst in 32 years, prompting meteorologists to issue red warnings for extreme weather conditions.

Ingunn has brought hurricane-force winds up to 50 meters per second, significant rainfall, and the threat of avalanches and landslides.

Schools have closed, and transportation services, including flights and ferries, have been suspended in affected regions.

As the storm moves towards Sweden, the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) has issued orange warnings for strong winds and snow in the northern mountain areas.

Residents in both countries are urged to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel, while emergency services and the military are on high alert to respond to the storm's impact.
