Sweden's NATO application has hit a snag in Hungary, where a scheduled parliamentary vote was unexpectedly postponed.
Members of Prime Minister Viktor Orbn's ruling party, Fidesz, and their allies did not attend the specially convened session, leaving the parliament without the quorum needed to proceed with the decision.
The absence of a vote increases pressure on Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson to visit Budapest and meet with Orbn, a move that Hungarian officials insist is necessary for the ratification process to continue.
Fidesz group leader Kocsis Mt emphasized the importance of a meeting between the two leaders in Budapest, similar to Kristersson's visit to Turkey to secure their approval.
Meanwhile, the USA is exerting pressure on Hungary, reminding them of their commitment to ratify Sweden's membership at the earliest opportunity, as stated by the American embassy in Hungary.
The next regular session of the Hungarian parliament is scheduled to begin on February 26, leaving the timing of Kristersson's potential visit and the subsequent ratification uncertain.
