The opposition in Hungary has requested an immediate special meeting in the country's parliament to vote on Sweden's NATO membership.
The request comes after reports that Turkey's parliament may vote on Sweden's NATO membership on Tuesday, risking Hungary being the last country to admit Sweden - something it has pledged not to be.
The social democratic opposition party MSZP's vice-chairman, Tamás Harangozó, stated that the handling of Sweden's NATO application has been a 'meaningless charade' that 'brought shame over the Hungarian people.
' For the opposition's proposal for an extraordinary session to become a reality, the parliament's preparatory committee must approve the proposal, which MSZP argues would be beneficial for Hungary and for NATO.
