In a significant operation at Norvik Port in Nynäshamn, south of Stockholm, Swedish police have made one of the country's largest narcotics seizures, confiscating approximately 1.4 tons of cocaine.
This major bust, valued at billions on the street, marks a dramatic increase in the scale of drug seizures in Sweden, where such large quantities were rarely seen a decade ago.
Stefan Granath, Deputy Head of the Control Department at the Swedish Customs, highlighted the worrying trend of increasing drug volumes and stressed the need for enhanced intelligence operations to combat the issue.
Despite the success, Granath admits that completely stopping the flow of narcotics is unlikely due to the sheer volume of trafficking.
Six individuals have been detained on suspicion of serious drug offenses following the raid.
