A weather system bringing heavy rains is moving northward across Sweden, according to SMHI, the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute.

The rain began in northern Götaland and is expected to reach Svealand and southern and central Norrland by evening, though it may weaken by then.

SMHI has issued a yellow warning for high water levels around southern Vättern.

Parts of southern and eastern Götaland, as well as Gotland, are under a yellow warning for torrential rains and thunderstorms until Saturday evening.

Local variations in rainfall are significant, with some areas like northern Värmland and northwestern Dalarna potentially receiving larger amounts.

The unstable weather is forecast to continue across much of the country in the coming week.
