The emergency department at Länssjukhuset Ryhov in Jönköping is experiencing strained conditions following the implementation of a healthcare union's overtime, additional hours, and new hiring blockade.
Nurse Jennie Barona, a union representative and safety officer, highlighted the increased workload and staffing challenges, emphasizing the difficulty in taking breaks.
Despite these challenges, Barona believes the blockade is necessary to address the growing issues within the healthcare sector, including burgeoning queues and a statewide shortage of healthcare professionals.
Negotiations between the healthcare union and the employers have yet to resume, leaving the situation unchanged since the blockade began three days ago.
The action affects 63,000 union members nationwide, with 3,000 in the Jönköping region alone.
