Healthcare Workers Demand Fair Conditions in Örebro

Published: 2024-05-13

In Örebro, the Swedish Association of Health Professionals, Vårdförbundet, staged a demonstration at Stortorget to demand better working conditions amidst stalled negotiations with the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SKR) and Sobona.

Since April 25, Vårdförbundet has imposed an overtime, additional hours, and new hiring blockade due to SKR's refusal to meet their demands for more reasonable work hours aimed at ensuring members could sustain full-time employment throughout their careers.

The dispute has escalated concerns over the potential impact on healthcare services, including the postponement of operations in Region Örebro.

The union argues that their demands are just and seeks a gradual reduction in weekly working hours to alleviate the strain on healthcare professionals, especially newcomers to the field who face immediate pressure to perform without adequate support.
