Grenade Discovery Shakes Stockholm's Old Town

Published: 2024-10-30

A significant area in Stockholm's Old Town was cordoned off on Wednesday morning after a hand grenade was discovered.

The National Bomb Squad safely detonated the grenade later in the morning.

Despite the removal of the grenade, police have maintained some of the barriers for ongoing crime scene investigations.

The incident has led to a criminal investigation for attempted gross public destruction.

The discovery caused major disruptions to public transport, particularly affecting bus lines 2, 57, and 76, as well as boat services.

Police are working to determine the intended target of the grenade, with extensive resources dedicated to the investigation.

The Royal Court's staff were informed due to the proximity of the incident to the Royal Palace.
