The Swedish Green Party has criticized the government's railway policies, calling for significant investments in new rail infrastructure and timely train services across the country.
Amanda Lind, a spokesperson for the party, highlighted the recent decision by SJ, Sweden's state-owned railway company, to discontinue night train services between Gothenburg and northern regions like Jämtland and Umeå due to unprofitability.
This move, according to Lind, exemplifies the government's neglect of national railway needs.
The Green Party advocates for direct cross-border train routes to Trondheim and a subsidized national train pass to make train travel more affordable.
Meanwhile, SJ has expressed its inability to continue these services without government subsidies, as the routes are not financially viable.
The Transport Administration has acknowledged the issue but stated that the route is not a priority for government funding at this time.
