Green Party Chair Steps Back Amid Controversy

Published: 2024-04-01

Lena Östholm-Munkberg, the local chair of the Green Party in Helsingborg, is taking a timeout following a controversial incident.

During the party's annual meeting, a representative from the Swedish-Palestinian Center presented a painting depicting Palestine without Israel, sparking significant backlash.

Further controversy arose when the representative previously stated to Helsingborg's daily that Hamas is not a terrorist organization and that an attack on October 7 targeted only military, not civilian, sites.

The Green Party's district chair in Skåne, Ulf Holm, cited the presence of anti-Semitic individuals at the meeting as a partial reason for Östholm-Munkberg's timeout.

This development has been met with serious concern by the party's leadership.
