Recent reports reveal a significant gender imbalance in Sweden's Riksdag, particularly in leadership roles.
The Swedish Central Bureau of Statistics (SCB) highlights a drastic decline in female representation in committee chair positions, now at just 20%.
This marks a sharp contrast from the 40-50% female representation seen in previous years.
The trend extends beyond the Riksdag, affecting local councils where gender balance is also deteriorating.
Anneli Åkerman from SCB notes that the number of municipalities with balanced gender representation has decreased since 2014, worsening after the 2022 elections.
This shift raises concerns about gender equality in Swedish political institutions.
