The likelihood of a white Christmas in Sweden is steadily decreasing, according to data from SMHI.
Comparing periods from 1961-1990 and 1991-2020, the probability of snow on Christmas Day has dropped significantly, especially in southern regions like Götaland, where chances fell from 45% to 30%.
Rising temperatures are cited as the main cause.
Northern inland areas, however, still maintain a high likelihood of snow, with some regions experiencing a white Christmas almost every year.
Meanwhile, in Örebro County, weather forecasts predict mixed precipitation, with snow more likely in northern areas.
SMHI has issued warnings for snow and sudden ice, urging caution for holiday travelers.
While snow remains a cherished part of Swedish Christmas traditions, its rarity is expected to grow.
