Rasmus Paludan, a far-right politician, has been sentenced to four months in prison by the Malmö District Court for inciting hatred against ethnic groups.
The charges stem from incidents in 2022 where Paludan burned copies of the Quran and made inflammatory statements during public gatherings in Malmö.
His actions, which included wrapping a Quran in bacon and kicking it, were deemed by the court as expressions of contempt towards Muslims, not protected as political speech.
Paludan, who has a history of similar convictions in Denmark, was also ordered to pay damages to an individual he insulted.
Despite his denial of the charges, claiming his actions were political expressions, the court found his statements exceeded the boundaries of legitimate criticism.
The verdict could mark the end of Paludan's political career in Sweden, where his party, Stram Kurs, received minimal support in the 2022 elections.
