A preschool in Västerås was evacuated on Tuesday after a suspected dangerous object was discovered in a nearby wooded area.

The find prompted police to establish cordons and call in bomb experts.

Late in the evening, it was confirmed that the object was indeed explosive but was safely neutralized on site.

The incident is being investigated as preparation for destruction of public property and a serious violation of laws on flammable and explosive materials.

The preschool is set to reopen on Wednesday, following the lifting of the cordons.
