Ebba Busch, leader of the Christian Democrats in Sweden, has called for a review of voting rights for non-citizens in local and regional elections.
Currently, non-citizens can vote if they have been registered in Sweden for three consecutive years.
Busch argues that this period should be extended, as she believes the current rules could allow significant influence from recent immigrants on local governance.
Additionally, she advocates for slowing down the issuance of new citizenships until stricter requirements, including knowledge of Swedish laws and language, are implemented.
Busch emphasizes that these measures aim to ensure that all citizens share fundamental Swedish values, thereby strengthening societal cohesion.
