Renowned chef Daniel Höglander, previously of the two-Michelin-starred restaurant Aloë in Älvsjö, has been appointed as the new executive chef and gastronomic leader at the prestigious Operakällaren in Stockholm.
This decision has sparked controversy due to Höglander's past involvement with a luxury restaurant in St.
Petersburg, Russia, which drew criticism amidst the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Despite the backlash, Operakällaren's CEO, Oscar Durling, expressed full confidence in Höglander's values and culinary expertise, emphasizing that the decision was based solely on his professional capabilities.
Höglander clarified that his involvement in Russia was merely to assist a friend and that he does not support the war.
He will be joined at Operakällaren by chef Emanuel Tärnqvist, who will serve as the head chef.
The duo will also oversee gala dinners at the Royal Palace, further cementing their roles in Sweden's culinary scene.
