Timber frames are deteriorating as a result.
However, cottage owners can now receive aid for restoration, says Anna Elmén Berg, a building antiquarian at the county administrative board.
The country's preventive efforts have identified several key areas needing restoration, such as the Öjeby church town.
Restoration plans and aid applications are being developed to help property owners protect these cultural heritage sites from further damage.
