C-politiker Exposed by Dumpen Resigns

Published: 2024-02-20

A Center Party politician in Norrland, Sweden, has resigned from his party and official duties after being exposed by the website Dumpen, known for confronting and outing adults seeking sexual contact with minors through fake child accounts.

The politician was involved in prolonged and sexual chats with one such account since 2022 and had arranged a meeting at a hotel, believing he was meeting a child.

However, he was met by Dumpen's founders, high-jump legend Patrik Sjöberg and editor Sara Nilsson.

The Center Party, upon learning of the situation from Dumpen, advised the politician to resign immediately, which he did through an email.

Although not convicted of any crime, the politician's involvement raised concerns given Dumpen's controversial method of using decoy profiles to expose potential offenders, a practice that has led to criticism and tragic outcomes for some of the exposed individuals.

The politician, who also works at a regiment with the Swedish Armed Forces, may face further consequences as the regiment has been informed of Dumpen's publication.

The case highlights the complex ethical and legal questions surrounding civilian-led initiatives to expose alleged offenders online.
